5 Steps to Start Your Small Business

Your Wedding – Tips to Cut the Cost Without Cutting the Class

5 Steps to Start Your Small Business You’ve dreamed of your wedding day, and now your dream is going to become a reality. The perfect dress, the perfect place, gorgeous flowers and a fabulous reception, so much to think about and plan. It’s so exciting, until you begin to realize just how much that dress costs, and just how much that caterer and florist charge, and how quickly the costs add up, replacing those stars in your eyes with dollar signs. It’s enough to make you think about abandoning your dream and eloping, but don’t give up too quickly. With a bit of forethought and planning, you can have the wedding of your dreams without breaking your budget.

The biggest expenditures usually include your dress, the flowers, the venue, the cake and the reception, but sometimes it’s the little things such as guest favors, programs that can add up to more than you thought.

If you can save in one area, you can spend those savings in another. For example, if you plan to wear your Mother’s wedding gown, that will free up some cash to spend elsewhere. And don’t dismiss that idea, thinking “it’s way too out of date!” Many times a skilled seamstress can alter a dress to suit your style for less than it would cost to buy a new dress. And wouldn’t it thrill your Mom for you to wear her dress?

Another place to find cost savings is with your flowers. Depending on the venue you choose, and the time of year of your wedding, you may not need to decorate extensively. A church wedding at Christmas time, with the sanctuary already decorated for Christmas, can be lovely with only the addition of a few flowers and candles. Or an outdoor wedding in a beautiful garden in the spring – what could be prettier?

Traditional multi-tiered wedding cakes can be another pricy item, but just because they’re traditional doesn’t mean you have to have one, and other options could be more cost effective.  What about a variety of smaller cakes? That way you can also have a variety of flavors, making it more fun for your guests.

Take a little time to really think through your wishes and you can make the wedding of your dreams a reality.
