1. Give the gift of time
If your dad is not a person who digs the typical Father’s Day fare, consider spending time with him as your gift. Plan a day filled with his favorite activities. Think about what he likes to do, or if unsure, ask him how he would like to spend his day. Make the day about him, and let him know you want him to have a fun and relaxing time doing something he enjoys. Maybe take it a bit further and make the whole week about him!
2. Online Shopping
If you aren't in a rush to get something in the mail, put some items in your online shopping card and then abandon the cart for a day or two. You might get a coupon sent to your email trying to entice you to come back and check out. A lot of stores – including Best Buy, Home Depot, Zappos, ThinkGeek, Levis, and others – have reportedly used this system in the past, so it's worth a shot!
3. Gift cards
You can often buy gift cards for less than the listed face value, especially when you buy them in bulk (three to five cards per package), from stores such as Walgreens and Costco. Considering splitting the cost by going in with siblings or friends who might want to purchase the same gift card for their father when buying cards in bulk.
4. Shop in advance
Many retailers have great father's day deals and specials from a week to a month out from father's day. Give yourself some time to identify the type of gift you'd like to purchase for your father and do some research to find the best deal with a retailer who has the item on sale, or many stores run specials where you get a certain percentage off of your entire purchase.
5. Split the cost
If there is an item that you know your father would love to have, but it's a bit pricey for your budget, consider asking your sibling(s) or other parent figure if they want to go in with you on the gift. If this isn't an option for you, then maybe make the gift for more than one special occasion, like for your father's birthday and father's day combined.
It's June, which means summer is in full swing, as well as the fact that Father's Day is right around the corner on June 21!
