Trump Accounts: What Families Need to Know
A Trump Account is a new savings and investment account for children under 18, created by federal law. On Oct. 1, 2026, the U.S. Treasury opened accounts for eligible children. A parent or guardian must claim the account in the official Trump Accounts app to manage it.
✓Children born in 2025 through 2028 can get a one-time $1,000 from the government
✓Family, friends, and employers can add up to $5,000 a year
✓The money is in your child's name and invested in U.S. stock index funds until age 18

Who qualifies?
Any child under 18 with a Social Security number can have a Trump Account.
The $1,000 deposit is only for U.S. citizen children born from 2025 through 2028.
To have a Trump Account
- Your child has a valid Social Security number.
- Your child is under 18.
To get the $1,000 deposit
- Your child is a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security number.
- Your child was born from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028.
- You request the $1,000 on IRS Form 4547.
How to claim your child's account in 3 steps
If the Treasury has already opened an account for your child, you do not need Form 4547 to open it. You only need Form 4547 to ask for the $1,000.
1
Download the app
Get the official Trump Accounts app from trumpaccounts.gov, the App Store, or Google Play.
2
Claim the account
Verify your identity and that you are the parent or guardian, then activate it.
3
Ask for the $1,000
If your child qualifies, submit Form 4547 in the app or at trumpaccounts.gov.
What to have ready
Have these four details ready before you start.
Each one should match your child's Social Security record to avoid delays.
More ways money can go into the account
You never have to add money. The account stays invested either way.
Here are three other places money can come from.
You and your family
Parents, grandparents, and friends can add money in the app, up to $5,000 a year in total.
Your employer
Some employers add up to $2,500 a year. Ask your HR team if they offer it.
The Dell family gift
$250 for many children age 10 and under in ZIP codes with a median income below $150,000.
Government and nonprofit deposits, like the $1,000 and the $250, do not count toward the $5,000 yearly limit.
How the money is invested and used
Invested in U.S. stocks
The money goes into low-cost U.S. stock index funds. You can see them in the app.
Held until age 18
You manage the account as custodian. Your child can use the money at age 18.
Becomes an IRA
At 18 it works like a traditional IRA. Money taken out is taxed as regular income.
Investments can go up or down in value. Growth is not guaranteed.
Where PrimeWay can help
Trump Accounts are run by the U.S. Treasury and held by its chosen financial firm, so you claim and manage them in the official app. PrimeWay does not open these accounts.
PrimeWay can help with the rest of your family's money: a savings account for your child's everyday goals, and team members who can answer your questions at any of our retail centers in the Houston area.
Common questions
Treasury opened an account for my child. Do I still need to do anything?
Yes. You must claim the account in the Trump Accounts app before you can manage it or before anyone can add money. If your child qualifies for the $1,000, you also need to submit Form 4547 to ask for it.
My child was born before 2025. Can they still have an account?
Yes, if they have a valid Social Security number and are under 18. They will not get the $1,000, but if they were born from 2016 through 2024, they may have received the $250 Dell gift.
How do I know if my child got the $250 Dell gift?
Children born from 2016 through 2024 qualify if they live in a ZIP code with a median family income of $117,300 or less, or on a military base. The deposits were made by Oct. 9, 2026. Check your ZIP code at InvestAmerica.org, then look at your child's account at trumpaccounts.gov to see if the $250 arrived.
Do I have to put my own money in?
No. The account stays invested even if you never add money. Adding money is your choice, up to $5,000 a year.
Can my child take the money out early?
No. The money stays in the account until your child turns 18, except in a few limited cases set by the rules.
What happens when my child turns 18?
The account works like a traditional IRA. Money taken out for things like college or a first home is taxed as regular income, with no extra penalty.
How do I know a message about my child's account is real?
Use only the official Trump Accounts app, trumpaccounts.gov, or your IRS Individual Account to enter your child's details. If a call, text, or email asks for your child's Social Security number, stop and call the official help line at 866-USA-4547.
Who do I call with questions?
